El accidente ocurrió sobre las 11:00 de la mañana en el lago Furnas, un punto turístico del municipio de Capitólio.
Dos personas murieron y 32 resultaron heridas al precipitarse este sábado una enorme pared de roca de un cañón sobre unas lanchas turísticas en un lago del estado brasileño de Minas Gerais, que sufre un fuerte temporal de lluvias en los últimos días.
El accidente ocurrió sobre las 11:00 hora local en el lago Furnas, un punto turístico del municipio de Capitólio (sureste), cuando un bloque de piedra de grandes dimensiones cayó desde una altura de cinco metros sobre tres embarcaciones, dos de las cuales naufragaron por completo.
Un video que circula en redes sociales y cuya autenticidad fue confirmada a Efe por los bomberos muestra el momento en que la enorme roca se desprende de la pared del cañón y se precipita sobre el grupo de lanchas que se encontraban en el lago.

En otro video instantes antes del accidente se observa a las embarcaciones afectadas intentando alejarse de la pared del cañón, entre las advertencias y los gritos de las personas que se encontraban en las lanchas de alrededor.
Los bomberos sospechan que las fuertes precipitaciones de los últimos días presionaron las paredes del cañón, lo que pudo haber provocado el deslizamiento de este sábado.
El portavoz del Cuerpo de Bomberos de Minas Gerais, Pedro Aihara, dijo en declaraciones al canal ‘GloboNews’ que 23 de los 32 heridos sufrieron lesiones leves y ya han recibido el alta médica.
Asimismo, explicó que esa región de cañones está formada por rocas sedimentarias “más susceptibles a las acciones del viento y las lluvias” y, por tanto, “presentan una resistencia menor”.
“Estamos en un periodo bastante lluvioso, lo que ha podido acelerar la penetración de agua en la estructura rocosa”, expresó.
Por su parte, la Marina de Brasil informó en una nota que abrió una investigación para esclarecer las causas y las circunstancias del accidente.
